Back Page: My week - Baby news overcomes the January blues

Monday: Finally back to work after an extended three-week festive break. Well, not so much festive as festering - I've been down with the lurgy over Christmas and New Year along with several million others.

But now, just as I was getting used to being a lady of leisure, work calls and it's back to reality. A new year, a new start and a million emails to catch up on, but it's actually good to be back in the swing of things. You can only watch so many episodes of Jeremy Kyle.

Wednesday: Isn't January the most depressing month of the year? Grey skies, rain and no sign of spring. After trudging up the road to work feeling grumpy, I enter the office to find a happy atmosphere. We've just had a call to say that one of our staff members has gone into labour three weeks early. The clouds lift instantly and the excitement mounts as we wait for news.
