There I was, on the train, minding my own business. On the chair next to me was a huge pile of newspapers. I try not to read them, especially the tabloids. My blood pressure goes far too crazy after just a few pages of asylum rants, c-list celebrity features and stories about how you can buy a car from Belgium for a tenner cheaper than in Birmingham.

But what the heck. I had a long journey ahead of me, so I thought I'd waste a bit of time browsing.

It was a big mistake because, there it was, shouting out at me from page 11 of The Sun. the Richard Littlejohn column. Topic of the day: jobs in the public sector. And guess what - alongside his rants against Asian women's centre coordinators and support workers for older people, we got a mention. That doesn't happen often in the national press.
