A group of young people from our young carers' project has just spent the weekend at the Young Carers' Festival. And thanks to Express FM, a special on-site radio station, it feels almost like I was there with them.
Using internet technology, I was able to drop in on the festival from the comfort of my own home without having to so much as look at a chemical toilet.
Radio is a really great way of engaging and empowering young people, especially if they are encouraged to get involved in the production and presentation of programmes.
But before the internet opened up new possibilities to communicate at the click of a mouse, community broadcasting was a lot more involved - and a lot more expensive. Besides paying for a licence, you needed a serious amount of equipment.
