Back Page: Don't turn away from disability

1 min read
Claire remembers when disability was something to look away from.

Regular readers may remember that I am an aficionado of actor and disability activist Mat Fraser. I was therefore somewhat enthralled recently to find a newspaper featuring a full-page black and white naked photo of him accompanied by the caption: "Let's talk about sex." Don't mind if I do, I thought. A gorgeous photograph, there is nothing salacious about it, just the man as is, in the flesh.

It accompanied an excellent article about sex and disability, for once with a positive slant. It even discussed pleasure, not a word often used when talking about sex and relationships these days, and especially not when referring to people with disabilities. It broke boundaries with its honest and open visual impact.
