What are your responsibilities? I manage a core group of six full-time sports mentors, who work with permanently excluded vulnerable young people in the community and those who attend pupil referral units. We provide sports activities for young people around the year, and especially during holidays to build up their confidence and self-esteem.
What's a typical day? The centre opens at 8.30am and young people attend curriculum classes from 9am until 3pm. We make sure we provide at least an hour of sport activities during the day. We encourage them to challenge themselves, not each other.
Who is in your meetings? Youth offending teams, education psychologists, welfare officers, youth services and Connexions. Our sports mentors are in demand.
