What is a typical day? Each day can be very different. Some days, I'm in the office, preparing reports, drawing up plans or making financial arrangements for the team. The other aspect of my role is about attending meetings, and this could involve the youth offending team steering group, the crime and disorder partnership, the drugs action team or the Connexions local strategic partnership. In all of these areas I represent the youth offending team position and try to influence service delivery or design.
How did you get the job? I've worked with young people since 1983. I was a residential social worker in Birmingham, and in 1989 I joined Birmingham's youth justice team. I moved to Dudley in 1992 as a social worker on the youth justice team. Since 1999 I've been the manager of the youth offending team.
