We are part of the Positive Futures national social inclusion programme for young people aged 10 to 19, based in Hillfields,Coventry. We were set up in 2002 by the Home Office. Rashid Bhayat, the then project manager, took on the project and the team has continued to grow.
What type of work do you do? We operate seven days a week and offer extensive activities, including education support, alternative training programmes, personal support, holiday schemes, competitive sports, coaching education, volunteering opportunities and girls' projects.
Who do you work with? As well as working on the above, my main role is the girls' projects. Work with young women in Hillfields was limited, so my role was to engage girls in the area. We do this through programmes such as dance, drama and football, but I mainly support young girls at a local secondary school, working with social services to enhance their opportunities and bring out the best in them.
