Arts: Brazil anti-guns project comes to east London

1 min read

The artists will be running workshops for youth workers and teachers on how they have used art to divert young people away from involvement in the gun trade and drugs.

The work is the first stage of Favela to the World, a six-year scheme that will tie in with the 2012 London Olympics. Queen Mary, University of London, is running the project with partners including the Barbican arts centre. It hopes the workshops will lead to the formation of 10 projects using art to give young people a voice, mainly in the east London boroughs that are hosting the Olympics. There are also plans to involve Manchester and Liverpool in 2007, before expanding to other cities.
