Scheme from Brazil inspires disadvantaged young UK entrepreneurs

2 mins read Youth Work
Disadvantaged young people across the UK are running their own social change projects thanks to an approach developed in Brazil.

The Agency, in partnership with UK arts and youth organisations, has supported 45 creative initiatives nationwide, including theatre groups, skincare workshops and bike mechanics training.

The scheme, a partnership between Battersea Arts Centre, Contact and People's Palace Projects, was originally devised in 2010 in Brazil to engage children in deprived areas in social change projects.

After training from the Brazilian team, the Agency launched in the UK in 2013, initially as a pilot, to support disadvantaged 15- to 25-year-olds.

It is backed by the National Lottery Community Fund, City of London Corporation's charity and the City Bridge Trust as well as London mayor Sadiq Khan.
