Johnson has announced two new rounds of funding from his Music Fund for Young Londoners to support seven- to 18-year-olds with an interest in music.
Part of the funding has been awarded to six London-based music projects to create 9,600 more opportunities for disadvantaged young people.
The projects, which include the Youth Music Theatre Orchestra and Jazz Fusion, have been awarded grants of up to £80,000 each to increase the number of youth places available in workshops and master classes.
In addition, Johnson has awarded 70 talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with four-year music scholarships worth £280,000 each.
Under the scholarship scheme, young people will receive two hours of teaching a week, opportunities to perform and a personal mentor.
