Hundreds of young people living in the UK’s most disadvantaged areas are to be offered extra-curricular skills in a charity initiative.

The project – the result of a partnership between national youth charities The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) and OnSide – involves supporting nine Youth Zones to deliver the DofE.

The aim is to reach 300 young people who may be facing financial hardship, isolation or other challenges, over the next two years.

Participants in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) - backed scheme will be offered a range of activities for their DofE 'skills and physical' sections – including rock climbing, gym, music, arts and crafts, dance and cooking skills.

DofE volunteering opportunities such as sports coaching, beekeeping and volunteering at the Youth Zone, are also supported.
