Things to do - Run a dance project

2 mins read Youth Work
The prospect of taking part in a dance project can fill young people with either joy or dread.

Some will enjoy performing in front of their peers and showing off their talents, while others will view the experience as potentially humiliating.

But dance projects can be a great way to broaden young people's horizons and help them learn new skills along the way.

Hannah Robertshaw, project co-ordinator for Lancaster-based Ludus Dance, admits that some young people can be hesitant to take part at first. "Young men in particular might not think that it's a cool thing to do, so it's a case of making it appealing to them," she says.

Robertshaw advises youth groups to involve young people from the start about the type of dance project they want to run and then tailor the programme so it appeals to the broadest number of people in the group.
