Watchdog bans children's charity's 'racist' poster campaign

Children's charity Kids Company has had a poster campaign banned by the advertising watchdog for depicting racist images of black teenagers.

The Advertising Standards Authority received three complaints about the campaign, which aimed to prove that children who grow up in an abusive environment have underdeveloped brains.

One poster showed four black young men with the caption: "You are right. Kids who can kill really are wrong in the head." It went on to show two brains, one from a healthy boy, which was of normal size, and another much smaller brain from one suffering neglect and abuse.

The second advert showed a black teenager on a bike and two others harassing a white man.

Complainants said the posters implied black young people were thugs and criminals. The adverts were also considered misleading.
