The Lancashire Local Safeguarding Children Board has linked up with the Lancashire Council of Mosques to produce the policy, which will offer advice on spotting signs of abuse and carrying out checks on new workers.
The policy, which has been published in draft form for consultation, also offers advice on dealing with allegations of abuse and referring concerns on to police and social workers.
To complement the policy a Safeguarding Our Children handbook has also been released. This includes a commitment to safeguard children for representatives of mosques and madaris (Islamic schools) to sign.
Lancashire Council of Mosques director Nasrullah Anwar said: "We recognise that our mosques and madaris play a leading and responsible role in educating future generations and that they must have arrangements in place to safeguard and protect all."
The consultation on the draft policy closes on 10 August.
