Inspection slams Warrington's safeguarding service

1 min read Social Care
Ofsted has published a damning report into Warrington Council's safeguarding and looked-after children services.

The inspectorate found that the council was inadequate in 11 out of 15 categories including the overall effectiveness of its safeguarding procedures and capacity to improve.

Other areas criticised include Warrington's complaints handling, record keeping and performance management. The council's leadership was also slammed for being lacking ambition and failing to prioritise work effectively.

The report says: "Inadequate action is taken to ensure that initial and core- assessments, child protection enquiries and child protection plans are effective. This results in poor outcomes for some children."

The council has been ordered to immediately ensure all referrals of children who are at risk of harm are followed up at once. All management decisions on individual cases also need to be clearly recorded.
