Revised Guidance on Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education

1 min read Education Social Care
The introduction of the government's vetting and barring scheme has prompted a review of guidance that sets out the statutory framework for safeguarding children and young people in educational establishments in England.

Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education came into force in 2007, bringing together guidance on best practice for safe recruitment in educational settings and compulsory vetting checks for school and college staff. It also gives guidance on how to handle allegations of abuse made against those who work with children.

The updated guidance states that allegations against a person that are proven to be untrue do not have to be disclosed when providing a reference for that person. It also gives further direction on areas such as photographing of pupils, private fostering, and safeguarding children and young people from violent extremism.
