Safeguarding advisers network established

1 min read
A network of safeguarding advisers has been set up to ensure the safeguarding framework is implemented effectively across the country.

The network supports Local Safeguarding Children's Boards and makes sure local organisations deal with cases of alleged abuse against people working with children efficiently and consistently.

It supports the development of a safer children's workforce.

The network is also designed to include support for local organisations that work with children and young people in implementing child death review processes, which are required from April 2008.

It gives support to local organisations in implementing safe recruitment practices, helps ensure that action is taken when serious childcare incidents occur and that organisations comply with the vetting and barring scheme set up under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.

Safeguarding advisers are based in government offices and will stay in these posts until 31 March 2010.

The Safeguarding Advisers' Network replaces the National Network of Allegations Management Advisers co-ordinated by the Department for Children, Schools and Families' Children's Safeguards Policy Unit.
