Joint working - Field forces loosen grip on councils

A programme to join up the support local authorities receive has been broadly welcomed. Janaki Mahadevan investigates.

The government is set to overhaul improvement-support arrangements for local authorities.

With the current range of support for local authorities spread over more than 30 organisations, a more co-ordinated and joined-up support mechanism is being welcomed by directors of children's services.

At present, field forces cover a range of advisers and specialists who challenge and support local authorities on government initiatives.
