London drive for more Muslim carers

1 min read Social Care
The Adolescent and Children's Trust (Tact) has begun work with Muslim community groups in a bid to recruit more Muslim foster carers.

The fostering and adoption agency identified an absence of carers for children from Muslim backgrounds within the London Borough of Croydon.

The agency plans to meet with national charity the Muslim Foundation and local Islamic schools during April and May. A meeting with an imam from an Islamic Centre in Lewisham is also planned.

Beverley Crisp, Tact's area manager for south London, said: "We found that we haven't got any Muslim carers. Local authorities normally request that these children are placed with Muslim carers who can meet their religious needs. We thought there was a gap in services and we needed to find a way to overcome it."
