Named after a 17th century land owner and philanthropist, the Henry Smith Charity has been helping combat disadvantage and poverty since 1628. Now it is one of the largest grant-making charities in Britain; making grants of more than £30m in 2017. The charity’s holiday grants programme provides funding for recreational trips and holidays for groups of children aged 13 and under in the UK who are disabled or disadvantaged.

What is funded?

Funding will be considered towards a day trip or a longer holiday of up to seven days. These can be to the countryside or a city but must be within the UK. In addition, trips should be outside of the children’s immediate localities but not require lengthy journeys to reach.
