Pledge for young people in care signed by London Mayor

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has signed a pledge outlining London local authorities' commitments to children and young people in care.

The London Pledge for Children and Young People in Care is an agreement, which sets out 47 promises for children in the capital who are in or leaving care.

Developed through a consultation with 200 young people, the pledge includes aims to improve health, education and emotional wellbeing among children in care, so they are able to access the same opportunities as other young people.

Johnson said: "Children in care deserve the same high standard of education, health care and opportunities that we want for our own families. They are amongst the most vulnerable young people in London and it is imperative we make sure they are properly supported."

The pledge was developed through a partnership of London Councils and the Government Office for London.
