1 min read Youth Work
Mayor of London Boris Johnson joined young sporting stars to launch the 2009 Balfour Beatty London Youth games today.

Practising his basketball skills with former competitor Arek Deng, chief executive of London Youth Games Russell Findlay and Leon Bennett-Harris, a competitor this year, Johnson kicked off the event that will culminate with the finals at Crystal Palace in July.

Johnson said: "With the 2012 games on the horizon I'm delighted to help launch the London Youth Games. The event provides brilliant opportunities for talented athletes and encourages all young Londoners to get more involved in sport. I learnt a few tips on shooting hoops today and I want to wish the best of luck to all the young people involved."
