
Councils across the capital exceeded a pledge to offer 2,000 apprenticeships across the capital by March 2012, with 2,275 people being offered paid apprenticeships within local authorities or within the workforces of their contractors.
At least 565 of these apprentices were previously not in employment, education or training and more than 80 per cent of the apprenticeships were offered to young people aged 16 to 24.
London Councils’ executive member for children and young people Steve Reed said: "Through apprenticeships, London’s local authorities have given more than 2,000 people – many of whom were not in employment, education and training – a foundation of qualifications and work experience from which they can go on to build careers.
