Jay Fox, 15, Camborne, Cornwall
In April, I was appointed St John Ambulance’s national cadet of the year after being assessed against 30 other cadets.
To become national cadet of the year the judges were looking for skills such as: communication, leadership, and the ability to deal with a first aid scenario. At the end of the weekend, nine regional winners were selected as well as one overall national winner.
My role is to represent St John Ambulance’s youth volunteers at a national level. This involves attending high-profile events such as the Queen’s Birthday Patrons’ Lunch and Remembrance Sunday. I was also lucky enough to host alongside Dr Ranj for the charity’s Big First Aid Lesson Live – which is streamed into schools across the country. Largely, my role entails providing another opportunity for youth to voice their ideas within the organisation on a national scale.
