My life: Rebecca Cole, 16, Sussex

1 min read
I am from a small rural village in Sussex, which I have lived in all my life. When I am older I hope to become a doctor, and I joined St John Ambulance when I was 10 to help me achieve my dream. I also work in a local care home when I'm not on duty with St John or studying for my GCSEs.

Joining St John as a shy girl, it opened my eyes to the suffering around the world and on my own doorstep. It has helped me achieve things and made me a more rounded person.

St John gives you the skills to save someone's life while also giving you the opportunity to work within your community, and make new friends.

Over the last two years I have held two different positions at a county level. I was East Sussex Lord Lieutenant Cadet and then Sussex Cadet of the Year. Because of this I met a variety of people, from young members right up to the Ambassador of Nepal and Princess Anne.
