Richard Whiting, IT project officer at Norfolk County Council, and TonyBaxter, children's services business development manager at IT supplierTribal, highlighted the problem at last week's National Children'sCentre & Extended School Show.
They said many smaller children's centres, especially those runprivately, are using cheaper IT systems that will not link in with theGovernment's information sharing standards. This could result inchildren getting lost in the system since information stored by centreswould conflict with the England-wide ContactPoint system.
Baxter said: "A lot of people are concerned, especially those who aresetting up. There doesn't seem to be a lot of support."
Whiting added: "Cost comes into it. A lot of children's centres are notrun by local authorities and there are issues surrounding who should payfor IT systems - many believe the Government should pay."
