David Johnstone, the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services'lead on information systems, made the warning at a conference last week.He said a lack of common standards between databases on children, adultsand NHS patients would harm information sharing efforts.
"There are three major work schemes developing electronic care recordsfor children, adults and the NHS," said Johnstone, who is also on theboard overseeing the adult Electronic Social Care Record. "The vision isfor these systems to be able to exchange information and a huge amountof money is going in. But there's no co-ordinated cross-governmentapproach."
Johnstone said the Government should develop common standards for allthree systems urgently so they can share data.
