NO - Sean Massey, director, Capita Children's Services
We are still seeing a significant number of children's centres usingsimple Excel spreadsheets, local databases or even paper-based systemsto record critical information on children. The only way those workingwith children can be confident they are providing a truly multi-agencyservice, is to share this information with all agencies. What isrequired is an effective IT system that records the data in thechildren's centre and shares it seamlessly with a core children's systemat the authority level.
YES - Frank Firth, nominated strategic officer, Sure Start CountyDurham
There is no doubt that our children's centres' IT systems are up toscratch. We have put in place a system across our children's centresthat is connected directly with the county council system. The ITplatform in all of our children's centres is the same as the countycouncil platform - we have a clear line back from our children's centresto the council. Some children's centres elsewhere may have problems, butit will not be the case in County Durham.
