How we spent it in... Croydon

3 mins read Youth Work
The panel in Croydon includes young people from a range of backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of the borough. Tim Burke reports.

The London Borough of Croydon distributes £207,844 in youth opportunity fund cash and a further £179,768 through the youth capital fund. The panel provides funding to around 40 groups every year.

How is the panel recruited? Youth participation worker Ann Babington and existing panel members work hard at promoting the funds, both to encourage applications and to gain new recruits for the panel.

They go out and talk to a wide range of organisations such as youth groups, voluntary organisations and leaving care groups. Those expressing an interest in joining the panel complete an application form, which is followed up by an interview.
