Jo Stephenson reports on two schemes that tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in London and North Devon; a film that aims to explain to adults what it is like to be Neet; and an adventurous residential course in Wales.

PROSPEX

Name of project: Prospex

Aim: To support and empower young people to realise their potential

Funding: Launched with £70,000 from Children in Need, with ongoing funding from a variety of sources including trust funds and personal donations

Lee Henry is 24 and came into contact with Prospex when he was about 15. "I was a little rugrat round the flats and nicking stuff and they came and helped me," he says.

Lee is just one of the young people to be helped by the charity, which works with 11- to 21-year-olds in the Caledonian Road area of north King's Cross.

Detached youth work is at the heart of the project's approach, says founder Matt Calvert. "That's where we started from, working on the streets and building relationships," he says. "We start at the point a young person is at and deal with their particular issues."
