Funding for residential trips, holidays and days out for disadvantaged children and those with disabilities
What is it? Happy Days is a UK-wide charity offering funding to provide residential trips, holidays and days out to disadvantaged children and those with disabilities. It supports those between the ages of three and 17 who have physical or mental disabilities, have learning difficulties or have a long-term medical condition. Children who have suffered abuse or neglect, witnessed domestic violence, are young carers or are bereaved are also among those supported. Its patrons include Twiggy, Joan Collins and Richard Briers.
How much is on offer? The charity will meet the cost of the holiday or day trip, which can range from a £10 theatre visit to a £2,000 holiday. According to latest figures from the charity, 28 per cent of its funding pays for holidays, 36 per cent for trips to theatres, 22 per cent other day trips and 14 per cent on residential trips.
What will it fund? It funds holidays for young people and their families, residential trips and day trips to places such as safari parks, theme parks and the seaside. Trips to theatres and theatre workshops, as well as group trips are also included. Most of its family holiday funding is for a one-week holiday by the sea or countryside in the UK. Families that receive a grant are asked to complete a monitoring form about their trip. Applications are accepted from families, as well as GPs, hospital consultants, nurses and social workers.
When is the deadline? There is no set deadline, with applications invited all year round.
