When I left school two years ago, I was at a crossroads, not knowing what I wanted to do with my career.

Luckily, I was picked to represent England in the Boxing World Cup Tour, which was an amazing
experience. But for me it wasn’t a long-term option, so I started looking elsewhere.

I began to do a bit of research on working in construction. I found a lot of information about roles in the
industry and soon after I applied for an apprenticeship. I undertook a two-year business administration
apprenticeship at Luton’s Building Schools for the Future programme, run by CITB-Construction Skills and Wates Construction.

After this, I was placed on-site and trained as a section manager, while studying for a degree in construction management. Today, I’m employed by Wates Construction and training to be a project manager.
My apprenticeship has given me the confidence to aim higher in my career and I want to become
a director in the future. I’d recommend any young person to think seriously about finding a career in construction – it’s really exciting, there’s so much going on and a lot to learn, so it’s challenging but really rewarding as well.
