Although the conflict between Israel and Palestine may seem far away, it presents an opportunity for youth workers to discuss topics such as violence, religion and charity.

The death toll in Gaza reached more than 1,000 last week as the region's conflict with Israel looked no closer to a resolution. Of those that died more than 300 were children, a figure that shows the true horror of war.

Despite being thousands of miles away, statistics like this are generating interest about the conflict among young people in the UK. The dispute can also provide youth workers with a useful spark for discussion on a range of issues such as diversity, conflict and charity work.

Youth workers can start by asking young people about the conflict in Gaza itself. How much do they know about it? Do they know why it has started?
