Last week, FPA was handed £530,000 from the government to expand its training course Speakeasy, which helps parents to better deal with children's questions about sex.
It comes after the story of a 13-year-old father hit the headlines and coincides with a survey by YouthNet in which a third of 16- to 24-year-olds admitted to having unprotected sex whilst drunk.
Figures published last week show a rise in teenage pregnancy levels, which begs the question are adults doing enough to help young people understand the issues around sex? Youth workers are particularly important in offering such support, due to the informal setting of the youth centres and their experience in dealing sensitively with young people's issues.
