Mayor of London Boris Johnson is calling on Londoners to donate their unused musical instruments to youth groups and schools as part of efforts looking to improve music education.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson is calling on Londoners to donate their unused musical instruments to youth groups and schools as part of efforts looking to improve music education. 

Around 30 pupils at Chipping Sodbury School in Gloucestershire are taking part in a pilot offering young people in the area free bus passes. If successful the scheme will be rolled out across South Gloucestershire Council by 2010.  It is hoped the move will reduce car use among young people and improve their access to leisure facilities and jobs.

 The Arts Council of Northern Ireland has handed the Lyric Theatre in Belfast £50,000 to launch an education programme to encourage young people to get involved in the arts. The project will target children and young people of all ages.
