Youth Work: News in brief

One in three young people believe terrorism has affected their confidence when faced with meeting new people and making friends from different communities and backgrounds, according to a UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) survey of more than 300 young people in the East Midlands. The young people took the findings to the US Embassy in London last week and debated the threat of terrorism, extremism and national security during a discussion of US policy. In light of the findings, UKYP has called for young people across the UK to talk more openly about terrorism and extremism.

Young people and adults got together for the Pro Evolution Soccer PlayStation tournament at the Pedro Youth Club in Hackney, east London. The event took place last week and was organised by King's Park Safer Neighbourhoods Team, Clapton Park Management Organisation and Pinnacle's Clapton Park Housing Management Team. The event aimed to encourage young people to engage with the police in a more positive way.

Scouts have planted more than half a million trees under the Scouts for Trees programme. Scouts for Trees is a partnership between the Woodland Trust and the Scout Association, which was set up to enable each of the 400,000 Scouts in the UK to plant a tree to mark the centenary of Scouting in 2007.
