Youth Services: Youth workers' union vows to go ahead with one-day strike

1 min read

Doug Nicholls, general secretary of the CYWU, said the strike was prompted by a lack of progress on proposed changes to youth worker pay structure.

"There has been some progress in the negotiations but as yet no definite response on the issues of advanced practitioner grade, the assimilation of the new grades, and appeals against gradings," he said.

"All of these add to the pay packet and I think the employers have underestimated the strength of feeling out there on these issues."

The CYWU, which holds its annual conference in Derry, Northern Ireland, from Thursday, has asked its 4,000 members to go out on strike and Nicholls told YPN that further action might follow.
