YOUTH SERVICES: English youth workers vote for action in ongoing pay dispute

CYWU members are being asked to work to rule, including stopping all unpaid work, working strictly to contracted hours, not covering for absent colleagues and refusing to do work not in their job description.

The union wants a pay rise above the three per cent put on the table by employers in October as well as the introduction of an advanced practitioner senior grade. Strike action will take place if negotiations don't move forward at a full JNC meeting on 2 March, the union is promising.

Doug Nicholls, general secretary of the CYWU, said local authorities had enough underspent money "to give all staff a 10 per cent pay rise".
