Youth services: Wiltshire puts young people in charge of spending decisions

The eight Locality Young People's Issues Groups, to be rolled out over the next month, will consist of eight to 12 young people aged 13 to 19, plus district and county councillors.

The groups will help youth workers shape the young people's plan for each locality. They will also provide the structure through which young people decide how the Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund are to be spent.

The county's Youth Development Service already organises its services into locality areas. Richard Martin, senior operational manager for the service, said the groups could eventually take responsibility for youth service budgets.
