Youth Services: Youth forums to be centre of reforms

The council, which decides this month on proposals to make virtually all its youth workers redundant (YPN, 11-17 January p2), proposes to allow youth forums in the county's six districts to decide how the 1.1m budget should be spent.

The council has proposed commissioning services from district and borough councils, private and voluntary organisations, across six categories.

A further 2.1m has been pledged for youth projects funded by the Government or other areas of the council, such as activities connected to the teenage pregnancy strategy.

The council has also allocated 200,000 to help the voluntary sector involve young people in the decision-making process.
