Youth services: Licence could be requirement for youth workers to practise

Lifelong Learning UK will consult the sector on the appropriateness of the licence, alongside a series of consultation events to be held in late spring and early summer.

Maureen O'Mara, standards and qualifications officer at Lifelong Learning UK, said: "This might be the right time to look at a licence to practise. We might be looking at different levels (of licence). But this is not an uncontroversial issue."

Junior youth minister Maria Eagle last week told a conference that licensing was "important to consider".

O'Mara said a licence for youth workers may begin as a registration system, with different levels of registration according to qualification levels.
