No licence for youth workers

The government has confirmed it has no intention to bring in a licence to practise for youth workers.

The need for a licence has long been the subject of debate in the sector. But in a consultation on the future of skills policy, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills said it will not be introducing occupational licences.

Nevertheless, a National Youth Agency (NYA) spokeswoman told CYP Now the agency intends to continue developing a voluntary registration scheme for professional youth workers. "This is a much-needed and greatly desired development for the field," she said.
