Youth Services: Concerns over funding place future of regional units at risk

The Youth Work Unit for Yorkshire and the Humber has written to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) warning that the withdrawal of Transforming Youth Work funding will lead to a "huge reduction" in the support and development services available to the region's statutory and voluntary youth work.

The seven existing regional youth work units were due to meet on Tuesday and expected to put together a joint letter to the DfES on the subject.

In Yorkshire, the withdrawal of the funding places two officer posts under threat of redundancy, ending the unit's work in developing training, maintaining quality and consistency across youth services and voluntary sector support.
