"I'm not saying that youth work is the answer to everything, but being a magistrate certainly reinforces my belief in the need for youth work. I see some of these young people and think, 'I know just the right youth project for you'," she says.
Jackson has been director of the Yorkshire and the Humber Youth Work Unit since May 2000 and has 30 years' experience in the sector.
Her unit is one of eight in England and works at a strategic level to identify current issues and bring a regional dimension to youth work in the statutory and voluntary sectors.
