Project: Employment and Regeneration Partnership prison visits Mission: To show young people about life inside prison Funding: Minimal, about 60 for minibus hire
The Employment and Regeneration Partnership, which runs eight Entry to Employment (e2e) schemes in the Greater Manchester area, has recently started running trips to prisons for some of the young people it works with from the Longsight ward of the city.
The Mothers Against Violence group, which has been working with the partnership for several years, organises the visits. The first was to adult male prison Dovegate, in Uttoxeter.
Julie Heseltine, e2e team leader at the partnership, says: "Some of the young people we work with have criminal backgrounds, so this is just to say, 'this is where you could end up if you carry on'. Not all of them have criminal records though."
