Mission: Raise awareness among young people about the consequences of graffiti and help them take ownership of their actions

Funding: 500 from the Kendray Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder, as part of its funding of the youth inclusion support panel

When local residents and the police began complaining about rising levels of graffiti in Kendray, Barnsley, Kendray Youth Inclusion Support Panel decided to step in.

The panel felt it was important to examine why young people were vandalising property but also raise awareness of antisocial issues, so it decided to hold a workshop.

Young people aged eight to 13 were asked to plan, budget and paint a room at Kendray Youth Inclusion Support Panel, and provide art to hang on the walls. Of the nine that took part in the two-week project, all had been referred by agencies, which described them as having antisocial behavioural problems.
