YOUTH CRIME: Connexions supports Surrey youth centre

Connexions has given a grant of 21,000 for the project to Oxygen, a joint initiative between 22 churches that is the local centre of Christian organisation Youth For Christ.

Stuart Matthews will co-ordinate the centre's work on the Cambridge Estate, focusing on those who are not in education, employment or training. He will involve young people in the process of designing a programme of events including team sports and creative workshops. Matthews will also dev-elop Liquid Oxygen, a local under-18s nightclub.

Richard James, director of Oxygen, said he was "particu-larly pleased that South West London Connexions has recognised the valuable work that we are involved in and is prepared to support it by funding Stuart".
