Called Sanso - the Korean word for oxygen - the scheme is being set up by Youth for Christ's Oxygen project in Kingston-upon-Thames. Funding of 15,000 is made up of 9,000 from the Wates Foundation charity and various individual donations. It will support staff and cover running costs over the next three years.
There are 12,000 South Koreans in New Malden, which is the world's largest South Korean community outside the country. Richard James, director of Oxygen, said: "We hope this project will boost the confidence of many South Korean young people and provide them with the opportunities to become fully integrated. The South Korean community is a significant part of our local population with much to offer, but the needs of its young people have been neglected until now."
