Mayor Boris Johnson has instigated a shake-up in the way the London Development Agency (LDA) oversees services for children.

The LDA has already been a victim of cuts by Johnson, who sacked the chairman and chief executive on arriving in his new post. The agency is now undergoing a major restructure, which will see 173 positions made redundant.

"Tackling youth and childcare together is a massive challenge but makes a lot of sense because if you don't get early intervention right all you'll ever be doing is addressing the here and now," said Burke.
