1 min read
What do you do? I'm a forensic education consultant. Forensic refers to the expert witness bit of my work advising civil and criminal courts on education law, education negligence and special educational needs. I also spend a lot of time speaking and writing about these subjects at conferences and for journals.

What was the highlight of the past week? Visiting a new school on theeast African island of Zanzibar. The staff made all the teaching andlearning apparatus as well as having sewn the uniforms. The childrenmade me so welcome; it was really humbling.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Getting an email or callfrom a parent, colleague or organisation telling me my work has made areal difference to someone.

What is the hardest aspect of your job? I have to remain trulyindependent so my expert duty is to the court and not to my instructingsolicitors.

What is the toughest decision you've had to take during your career?Giving up teaching. I was combining teaching, writing, inspecting andexpert duties.
